How are admins automatically adding business services?

Hello PagerDuty community,

I’m setting up PagerDuty in a chemical manufacturing environment that has most incidents created through the incidents API. We have one service in particular that could affect any number of business services depending on where (physically) an incident occurs. I would like to use some sort of response or rules to automatically update the business service to the incident.

I can’t add the service as a dependent to all the business services because while they do all depend on it, if the issue occurs in one physical location it only affects that business service, not the others.

I’m also not 100% bound to the incidents API but before I go through modifying the tools to send stuff to the events API I want to figure out how to automatically update the business service.

Hey Nick,

Currently, we do not offer the ability to establish temporary technical service dependencies, but I can see how that would be helpful. I’ll happy to relay your feedback to our Product team.

Scott,
It wouldn’t need to so much be a temporary technical service dependency. Currently you can go into an incident and Add Impacted Business Service manually. This is all I need to accomplish, I just need to do it automatically based on the incident title going into the service. Has anyone done this or can bit be accomplished through Rules or Response Plays?

Hey Nick,

Thanks for clarifying! We do not have a way to automate adding an impacted business service at this time. However, it is a great idea and I will be happy to pass this along to our Product team.

Has there been any movement on this feature request? We’re looking at enriching our alerts with Service detail and wondered if there was any way it could be leveraged to build Business Services on the fly.

Thanks
